New Year's Resolutions

“Write. Rewrite. When not writing or rewriting, read. I know of no shortcuts.”
—Larry L. King, WD

New Year's resolutions are beneficial only if they truly motivate you to do something that you are determined to accomplish. My resolutions involving writing are to read and write more--pretty simple wording for something that takes discipline and commitment. I never seem to have enough time to do either one as much as I would like. The discipline is going to require MAKING/TAKING time to feed my literary hunger. Perhaps reading while using my exercise bike would accomplish two goals. I do love to "Kill two birds with one stone".
I am not typically an envious person, but I do admire my friends who are writing full-time and post the jaw-dropping number of books they read every week. I only read 30 published books in 2012, but I didn't count all the student stories, classroom reading, and unpublished manuscripts of fellow writers. (Favorite books in 2012? See my list below and let's talk about them. I LOVE to discuss a good book.)
My reading goal for 2013 is to read 40 published books and I feel good with that reachable goal. The first one will be The Always War by Margaret Peterson Haddix.

TOP 5 BOOKS READ IN 2012
1. Divergent by Veronica Roth
2. The Help by Kathryn Stockett
3. The Compound by S.A. Bodeen
4. Out of Sight, Out of Time by Ally Carter
5. Son by Lois Lowery

  1. Oh, I did love Divergent. I think it's my favorite dystopian series ever. I have been wanting to read Lois Lowry's new book, too. How was it? Her "series" is so different from any other - so lightly connected.
